I was intrigued by the show after the opening two-part episode and I did LOVE this episode the first time I watched it, but I was still not quite hooked (but I was super super super close). However, this episode slowly had me getting involved with the characters. It showed some very different sides of the ponies, ones we hadn't seen yet. We also got to see what happens to people when they want something and there is only one of that something to go around; even the nicest pony can be led astray by desire. Anyway, I really did love this episode and it was slowly leading me down the path of pony-ness. NOW TO THE EPISODE!!
It starts off with Twilight helping AJ pick some apples. (This happens a lot with a lot of different ponies). Spike, the lazy dragon, is total lounging and complaining about all the hard work he didn't do when BOOM! letter from the Princess about the epic Grand Galloping Gala, a super fancy party that EVERYPONY wants to be invited to. Twilight has been invited and is allowed to bring one guest. AJ then breaks into this speech about how she would love to go so she could sell her apple treats and get some extra money for the farm to fix it up. To be honest, of all the ponies, this is the most selfless reason for wanting to go to the gala and though it might have made some of my friends unhappy, I probably wouldn't have spent the whole episode running around and just given the ticket to Applejack, but that wouldn't be much of an episode.
So, back to the episode. Rainbow Dash, who has been lazily napping in a nearby tree (and avoiding doing any work on the farm) and jumps in with HER wish to go the 3G. Her one wish, as we learned in the first block, is to become a Wonder Bolt and this would be her perfect opportunity to show off her skills and live out her dream. Now Twilight is in a horrible bind and doesn't know what to do. With only two tickets, she now has to try and make a choice about who to talk. She runs off to eat (since she's mentioned she was hungry about a hundred times now), leaving the two ponies to try and battle it out in their usual way.
Poor Twilight is worried about choosing, but there's NOOOOO way she can pick on an empty tummy. In runs (and crashes) everypony's favourite party thrower! Of course Pinkie wants to go to the 3G cause it's suppose to be the super most awesome party ever and she is all "thanks for taking me Twilight." (Wait... when did she say that?) Then Rarity sees the tickets and is all "I want to meet HIM" (him being Prince Blueblood) and is VERY put out by Twilight picking Pinkie to go instead (which she hasn't done and she finally tells them). Now enters Flutters and her cute bunny sidekick (though it feels like she's Angel's sidekick) and she tells Twilight about all the wonderful flowers and animals she wants to see at the royal gardens. Wow... poor Twilight. No one needs to listen to all that arguing. (And then I said oatmeal? Are you kidding me?!) And now she has to pick between the five of them. Whatever should she do?
Now comes my favorite part: the crazy ways everypony is trying to get Twilight to give them the other ticket. First Dashie saving her from a rainstorm. She ends up drenched and "saved" by Rarity who is just trying to win her over with this super cute outfit. Applejack tries to bribe her with a wagon full of apple backed goods (I would have given in). Then Flutters "spring cleaning" (in the summer). At least Pinkie is honest and comes right out with a musical number... but that leads to a crazy chase all over town cause EVERYPONY wants to go. (Yay for crazy hi-jinx!)
Finally safe in her library, or so she thinks, Twilight is confronted by her friends once more. She tells them that she just can't pick one friend and risk disappointing all of them. It's at this point that everypony (even though Dash needs to get a stern glare) tells Twilight that they were all being horribly unfair to her and tell her that they all don't want the ticket. Twilight writes a letter to Celestia saying that if all her friends can't go, then no one should be able to go. A quick response has the princess telling Twilight that she could have just asked for six tickets (seven when you include spike) in the first place. Sometimes, though, things must be learned the hard way. Now everypony can go to the 3G! YAY!!!
In general, I really do like this episode. It shows how greed and desire can rule even the nicest of ponies and how sometimes giving something up for your friends is better than keeping it. Of course non of this mess would have happened if she had just asked for more tickets in the first place, but then the episode would have been HORRIBLY short and there would have been no awesome chase scene. The moral for this episode is a good one and I think would I liked most about this episode is what Twilight says before sending off the letter. "If my friends can't all go, I don't want to go either." I think if people would stop and think of others for just one moment, the world would be a far better place. Thanks for reading. See you next time.
